L.A. Care Chief Quality & Information Executive Joins March of Dimes Panel to Dispel Misinformation About COVID-19 Vaccines During Pregnancy

Dr. Katrina Miller Parrish

The CDC encourages pregnant women to get a COVID-19 vaccine, as they are more likely to get very sick from the virus compared to those who are not pregnant. COVID-19 also puts pregnant women at increased risk of complications that could affect the pregnancy and the developing fetus. Despite this, a recent Kaiser Family Foundation poll found that misinformation about pregnancy and the COVID-19 vaccines persists, false statements that are keeping some pregnant women from being vaccinated. The March of Dimes hopes to dispel some of the myths and misinformation during a panel discussion titled COVID-19 & Pregnancy. Among the panelists will be Katrina Miller Parrish, MD, FAAFP, the Chief Quality and Information Executive at L.A. Care Health Plan.

The multidisciplinary panel will discuss the importance of staying up to date on COVID-19 vaccines during pregnancy. Panelists will also provide the facts on the safety and efficacy of the vaccines when a woman is expecting. Parrish will emphasize that COVID-19 vaccines are safe in pregnancy. She will also urge pregnant women to maintain a close relationship with their healthcare team because guidance does change.

The other panelists include:

  • Priya Batra, MD, Senior Medical Director, Family and Community, Inland Empire Health Plan
  • Hayley Miller, Obstetrics and Gynecology Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellow, Stanford University Hospital
  • Host: Jessica Wade, Maternal Infant Health Director, March of Dimes
