L.A. Care’s Chief Equity Officer Joins Facebook Live to Discuss COVID-19 in the Black Community

The San Fernando Valley NAACP and the San Fernando Valley National PanHellenic Council are co-hosting a virtual discussion titled COVID: Beyond the Surge – Where Are We Now? James Kyle, MD, the Chief of Equity and Quality Medical Director at L.A. Care Health Plan, has been invited as the featured speaker to address the current state of COVID-19 in the Black community.

Dr. Kyle will discuss the disproportionate impact the pandemic has had on communities of color and will address some of the reasons why. While he will touch on how the history of racially-motivated mistreatment and unethical health care research kept many from accepting COVID-19 vaccines, he will also speak to the misinformation that has increased hesitancy among some in the Black community.

L.A. Care has supported a number of projects which had a goal of getting more people of color vaccinated. Dr. Kyle will discuss these efforts and also speak to the safety and efficacy of the vaccines, especially for those with chronic conditions.

The virtual event is on Tuesday, March 29, from 6:00 – 8:30 pm. It will be conducted via Zoom, and will also be on Facebook Live.
