L.A. Care Hosts the Second in a Series of Facebook Live Q&As to Dispel COVID-19 Vaccine Myths & Misinformation

More than 163 million Americans have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and more than 130 million are fully vaccinated, but 37 percent of adults are either hesitant or simply say they won’t get a shot, which puts herd immunity at risk. Those who are hesitant express a wide variety of reasons for not getting the vaccine. L.A. Care Health Plan is holding its second in a series of Facebook Live Q&As to try to ease concerns by giving people the facts about the safety and efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccines.

Trusted voices are critical to dispelling the myths and misinformation that could prevent us from returning to some sense of normal. During Facebook Live Q&As in English and Spanish, Dr. James Kyle, L.A. Care’s Medical Director for Quality, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Dr. Ilan Shapiro, an L.A. Care board member and the Medical Director of Health and Wellness Education at AltaMed Health Services, will answer questions on a wide variety of topics, such as:

  • Vaccine hesitancy, including addressing myths and common misperceptions
  • Vaccine safety, including the return of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine
  • Vaccines for 12 to 15 year olds
  • New masking guidelines
  • Safety precautions as the state moves toward reopening the economy on June 15

L.A. Care invites you to join these informative Facebook Live Q&As.

Tuesday, May 25
12:00 pm – English Q&A
2:00 pm – Spanish Q&A

The Facebook Live sessions, which will be held every four to six weeks, are just one way L.A. Care has been working to encourage vaccinations. The health plan held six drive-through vaccine clinics that vaccinated more than 3,400 people. L.A. Care is collaborating with the family of the late Star Trek™ actor Leonard Nimoy on a Live Long and Prosper™ billboard and social media campaign that encourages people to get vaccinated. The health plan also committed $2 million in grants to clinics that will vaccinate up to 190,000 people in L.A. County communities hardest hit by COVID-19.
