L.A. Care Health Plan – the Only Public Plan on the Covered California Exchange– Kicks Off 2021 Open Enrollment

L.A. Care Covered™ Rates among the Most Affordable in Los Angeles County

LOS ANGELES – November marks the beginning of a very important three-month period when consumers can shop around and make critical decisions about health coverage for themselves and their families. With affordability being a critical decision-making issue during our current recession, L.A. Care Health Plan is pleased to announce that its L.A. Care Covered™ product has the most affordable rates across most of the metal levels in Los Angeles County. It also has one of the largest provider networks among Covered California plans, with provider choices such as UCLA Health and Allied Physicians.

“The COVID-19 pandemic makes access to quality health care more important than ever,” said John Baackes, L.A. Care CEO. “And with L.A. Care, that high-quality care is now available through both in-person and telehealth visits.”

L.A. Care Covered serves only Los Angeles County – a health plan for Angelenos by Angelenos – with a greater understanding of the needs of the diverse community it serves.

“L.A. Care prioritizes health care quality, access and inclusion,” said Baackes. “As the largest publicly operated plan in the country, L.A. Care can keep rates lower than its commercial competitors who must answer to shareholders.”

While health care is complicated, and the enrollment process can seem daunting, L.A. Care has experts to walk you through the process. This year, the health plan is holding a series of virtual events in English and Spanish to do just that. The events will help people understand which metal tier plan is best for them and their family, and they will educate eligible applicants about federal and state subsidies that make premiums even more affordable. An estimated 90 percent of L.A. Care Covered™ members will qualify for a subsidy, with some paying as little as $1 per month for health coverage.

The 2021 open enrollment period runs from November 1 through January 31.  Renewals began on October 1.
