L.A. Care Communications Director on LABJ Women in Leadership Panel

The Work-Life Balance Panel Kicks Off the Three-Week Leadership Series

The Los Angeles Business Journal is hosting the 2020 Women’s Leadership Series & Awards throughout the month of October, and it kicks off Wednesday, October 7 with Today’s Work-Life Balance panel that will include Misty de Lamare, L.A. Care’s Director of Communications. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in many people working from home, and that makes for an even greater challenge in finding a work-life balance. de Lamare will be one of three panelists discussing how they are navigating the challenge.

During this unprecedented time, many families are struggling with increased demands at home, such as home schooling and childcare issues. de Lamare, who has two young children at home herself, has an important message for the panel attendees. She will tell them, “As women, we tend to be our own worst critic. My message is: Forgive yourself. It’s o.k. if you don’t have all the answers. It’s o.k. if you need to adjust your work hours to fit your at-home schedule. It’s o.k. if the laundry isn’t done, or if the kids eat mac and cheese for dinner several nights a week.”

de Lamare, who is a founding member of the L.A. Care Women in Leadership Employee Resource Group, believes self-care is critical at this time. She says, “Remember, you have to put your oxygen mask on first before you can help others.”

The other two panelists are Natalie Barron, a Certified Financial Planner and Portfolio Manager at UBS, a global financial services company, and Kandee Rochelle Lewis, the Executive Director of The Positive Results Corporation, a nonprofit dedicated to helping individual who have suffered trauma such as domestic violence or sexual assault.

The 2020 LABJ Leadership series has a goal of continuing to engage, inform, educate and inspire the magazine’s readers. Among the topic of other panels in the Leadership Series – Leading Through Change, Power of Mentorship, and Road to Entrepreneurship. The series ends with an awards ceremony on October 21.
