The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) releases Drug Utilization Review (DUR) articles which provide timely and relevant information on drug-specific therapy issues.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), mental health conditions are the leading underlying cause of pregnancy-related death. It is estimated that one in five individuals experience mental health or substance use disorders during the perinatal period.

Recently published resources by the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) provide information and best practices to improve perinatal mental health.

In February 2023, AIM published a patient safety bundle addressing evidence-based practices for managing perinatal mental health conditions. Patient safety bundles also provide recommendations to improve care and outcomes, serving as an information resource for health care providers across a variety of facilities.

In May 2023, ACOG published clinical practice guidelines for the screening, diagnosing, treating and management of perinatal mental health conditions. There are several key recommendations such as screening for perinatal depression and anxiety at the initial prenatal visit, during pregnancy, and at postpartum visits.
