The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has once again awarded L.A. Care the 2021 Multicultural Health Care Distinction (MHC), which was first received in 2013.
L.A. Care has since successfully earned it every two years. Earning this distinction means NCQA recognizes L.A. Care’s continued commitment to actively striving to reduce health care disparities and doing an exceptional job providing culturally and linguistically sensitive health care services.
The NCQA evaluated L.A Care’s ability to collect Race/Ethnicity/Language (REL) data, provide language assistance and our cultural responsiveness to our members, for the MediCal, Cal Medi-Connect and the L.A. Care Covered product lines.
L.A. Care offers free Language Interpretation and Translation services to members in 16 different languages, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. Members can request these services through the L.A. Care website, or they can call Member Services at 1.888.839.3309 (TTY 711).
Interpreting services are at no cost to your patients. Use of trained qualified interpreters leads to increased patient health knowledge, and decreases problems with patient-provider encounters while complying with state and federal regulatory requirements.
