The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LAC DPH) issued a health advisory on May 8, 2020.
In March, as COVID-19 cases increased dramatically and personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies were constrained, LAC DPH recommended the cancellation of all nonessential medical appointments that required PPE with the exception of appointments for routine immunization.
Not surprisingly, however, with stay at home orders and widespread fear and anxiety regarding COVID-19, patient visits across Los Angeles County fell substantially, even for immunizations.
As safely immunizing children and pregnant women remains a priority during the COVID-19 pandemic, this health advisory goes over actions requested of providers and recently released guidance from the CDC, American Academy of Pediatrics and the California Department of Public Health.

Because guidance for the prevention and management of COVID-19 may change, providers and staff are encouraged to visit the Los Angeles Health Alert Network (LAHAN) website frequently. You can also subscribe to the LAHAN to receive alerts, advisories, and updates from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
