The Los Angeles County Medical Association (LACMA) is hosting its first Business of Medicine Conference & Career Fair in Pasadena tomorrow. The half-day conference is bringing together physicians, physicians in training, and other healthcare support staff from across the state. L.A. Care Chief Medical Officer Sameer Amin, MD, will join a panel titled Bridging the Gap: Bringing Together Health Plans to Support Independent Practices.
The healthcare industry is increasingly shifting to value-based care, and it can be difficult for small and solo practices to keep up with larger, consolidated systems. The panelists will discuss strategies health plans can implement to support these vital providers while they adapt to value-based care models. Amin will detail L.A. Care’s Elevating the Safety Net, a $205 million initiative to recruit, train, and retain physicians in the L.A. County safety net.
Joining Amin on the panel are Erika Sockaci, Regional Medical Director at Health Net and Nishant Anand, MD, President and CEO of Altais. The panel will be moderated by Hector Flores, MD, a member of the LACMA Board of Directors.
The conference includes six breakout sessions developed in response to LACMA member feedback, including panels on healthcare regulations, malpractice insurance, and technology. The sessions intend to provide essential tools and real-world insights to help providers navigate the complexities of managing a small or solo practice, with a goal of reducing costs, improving efficiencies, and elevating the quality of patient care.
