Screening for Mental Health

May-June 2024

doctor talking to patient Do you know that it is important to complete screenings for mental health with your patients? Screenings help us better understand the level of services that our members need. Additionally, screenings not only measure baseline levels of functioning, but help us assess for changes in functioning as members engage in treatment.

Examples of evidenced-based screenings for behavioral health:

  • Alcohol and drug use screening and follow-up: SABIRT
  • Anxiety screening: GAD-7
  • Depression screenings: PHQ-9
  • Trauma: ACES

For members who report high levels of depression or anxiety, call Carelon Behavioral Health (877-344-2858) who will further assist member in getting connected to a licensed therapist or psychiatrist.

For members who need alcohol or substance use related treatment, call Los Angeles County’s Substance Abuse Service Helpline (SASH) at 844-804-7500.

Additional screenings can be found on our Behavioral Health Resources web page.
