Millions of Americans struggle to put food put on their tables. With a new report showing food insecurity is growing, L.A. Care Health Plan is working to ensure some Southern California families get the help they need to have a happy Thanksgiving. L.A. Care is teaming up with the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to host a food distribution event tomorrow in Long Beach.
The event will provide shelf stable foods, fresh produce and a turkey to more than 400 families. Among those volunteering to distribute the food will be L.A. Rams wide receiver and Super Bowl LVI Champion Tutu Atwell and Rams Cheerleaders. The event is being held at the L.A. Care/Blue Shield Promise Community Resource Center in Long Beach. This Community Resource Center and others operated by the health plans across the county held a number of food pantries during the pandemic to support families during that challenging time. They continue offer food support in a variety of ways, so this opportunity was a perfect fit.
This event with the Rams and L.A. Food Bank is:
Tuesday, November 7
9:00 am to 12:00 pm
Community Resource Center in Long Beach
5599 Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach
All are welcome, but this will be on a first come, first served basis.
This event is part of a continuing collaboration between L.A. Care and the Rams. In the past, the health plan has worked with the football team on vaccine events and on Rams Play 60 field events, aimed at encouraging kids to be active for 50 minutes a day to reverse rising childhood obesity rates.
