CEO Statement on Trump Administration Decision Not to Defend ACA

L.A. Care Health Plan is extremely disappointed to learn that the Department of Justice will no longer defend the Affordable Care Act, and now seeks invalidation of the entire law.

If the ACA is struck down, more than 20 million Americans could lose health care coverage, and many millions more who receive health coverage through their employers will lose the protections that the ACA offers.

The decision is exceedingly short-sighted. Without the ACA, taxpayers will end up spending more as uninsured individuals will seek costlier care in emergency rooms.

As a health plan that is participating in the ACA marketplace, and has seen membership rise through Medicaid expansion, we support efforts by the California Attorney General and others to fight the federal court decision that ruled the ACA is unconstitutional.

Harm to millions is guaranteed if that ruling is upheld.
