L.A. Care Health Plan is proud to announce that the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors recognized the L.A. Care and Blue Shield Promise Community Resource Centers for supporting the local health, behavioral, and social needs of communities throughout L.A. County. On Tuesday, Supervisor Hilda Solis presented a scroll to Al Ballesteros, Chairman of the Board of Governors of L.A. Care, John Baackes, CEO of L.A. Care, and several staff of the L.A. Care and Blue Shield Promise Community Resource Centers.
The Community Resource Centers are jointly operated by L.A. Care and Blue Shield Promise. Currently, there are 13 centers across L.A. County, with a 14th center opening soon.
In 2019, the two health plans joined forces with a joint $146 million commitment to expand L.A. Care’s existing network of resource centers in under-resourced communities across the county. The partnership paved the way for countless county residents to access much-needed resources. The centers offer a wide array of free offerings including classes and programs focused on fitness, nutrition, healthy cooking, and health education. Visitors can also explore health care coverage options, and get connected to social services assistance to address things like housing and food insecurity. In-person assistance is also available for L.A. Care and Blue Shield Promise members who need help navigating their benefits.
Community Resource Center visitors have come to rely on the resources that improve their quality of life. The centers are designed to help members of the community be healthy, active, and informed, and with this honor, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors has shown the centers are meeting their goal.
