The Events Aim to Reverse the Trend of Childhood Obesity
L.A. Care Health Plan is proud to partner with the Los Angeles Rams for Play 60, the National Football League’s campaign to encourage kids to be active for 60 minutes a day to help reverse rising childhood obesity rates. L.A. Care is sponsoring three Play 60 events, which are interactive events that promote the importance of healthy lifestyles to children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. There will be discussions with Rams ambassadors about mental health and football activity stations where students will participate in drills and skills training.
The events will take place at elementary schools near the L.A. Care-Blue Shield Promise Community Resource Centers in Norwalk, Wilmington and Inglewood. Staff from the centers will be at each event to provide giveaways, and to share information about fitness and nutrition programming at the centers and other social service resources offered at each location. Staff will also provide important information to students and their families about Medi-Cal renewals, which resumed earlier this year.
The first of the three events will be at:
Thursday, September 7, 2023
9:00 am – 1:00 pm
John H. Nuffer Elementary Steam Academy
14821 Jersey Avenue, Norwalk, CA
The other two events will be in the coming months.
The sponsorship is in alignment with L.A. Care’s commitment to advancing health equity, which means everyone has the fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible. L.A. Care and the Los Angeles Rams are using these events to inspire healthy habits for a lifetime.
