L.A. Care to Host Blood Drive as the Blood Shortage Persists

Slow Donations During the Winter Holidays Further Threaten the Blood Supply,
but You Can Give the Gift of Life

Every two seconds in the United States, someone needs blood, and that fact has the American Red Cross concerned right now. The agency says, with busy holiday activities and seasonal illnesses, fewer people donate blood during the winter months than at any other time of the year. So, in the spirit of the holidays, L.A. Care Health Plan is asking you to donate at a blood drive it is hosting tomorrow.

Bad weather in certain parts of the country has already forced cancellation of several blood drives. That is why it is important for people in areas not affected by harsh weather to take the time to give. Blood just might be the most precious gift someone could give to another person this holiday season.

While the COVID-19 pandemic also forced cancellation of many blood drives, sending the national blood supply to its lowest level in a decade, L.A. Care is proud to say that it did not cancel any of its planned blood drives during the pandemic. Tomorrow’s drive at L.A. Care’s downtown Los Angeles headquarters marks its 15th drive since the pandemic began.

The Red Cross will follow strict safety protocols at the L.A. Care event.
