LOS ANGELES — L.A. Care Health Plan, the nation’s largest publicly operated health plan serving more than 1.6 million members, today announced the grand opening of its newest Family Resource Center in Pacoima. The new facility – open to L.A. Care members and the public – will offer free and culturally focused health education resources and programs designed to promote overall wellness and healthy living.
"The Pacoima area has faced decades of limited health resources,” said L.A. Care Health Plan Chief Executive Officer Howard A. Kahn. “Having a presence here at the new and exciting Zocalito development is an opportunity for L.A. Care to contribute to the well-being of this community and to fulfill our mission to make quality and affordable healthcare available to those who need it the most.”
The 5,000 square foot center will offer a range of preventive services aimed at improving the overall health of visitors to the center. For example, free periodic health screenings may be offered for blood pressure, weight and vision. Health education classes may include: parenting, healthy cooking, asthma and diabetes disease management, weight management, and dance. Additionally, the center will have staff onsite to offer assistance in applying for free or low-cost healthcare coverage.
The new Family Resource Center is located in The Zocalito on the corner of San Fernando Road and Van Nuys Boulevard. The center will be open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
To inaugurate the center, L.A. Care is hosting a grand opening celebration open to the community on Saturday, November 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The free event will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony, cooking demonstrations, music, food, prizes and Salsa and Zumba fitness classes, among other activities. The event will serve to showcase the center’s resources and services to the community.
L.A. Care also has Family Resource Centers in Boyle Heights, Inglewood and Lynwood.
