The Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County (CCALAC) is hosting its 3rd Annual Health IT Summit tomorrow, Friday, December 9. The daylong virtual summit, titled Improving Patient Care Through Health IT Innovation, will feature a panel on Advancing Holistic Patient Care Forward Through Data Exchange. Katrina Miller Parrish, MD, the Chief Quality and Information Executive for L.A. Care Health Plan, will be among three health care leaders sharing their insights on this topic.
It’s a timely topic since California’s Health and Human Services Agency recently published a Data Exchange Framework, a first-ever, statewide data sharing agreement that will accelerate and expand the exchange of health information among health care entities, government agencies, and social service programs beginning in 2024. At the same time, Medi-Cal launched California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal, a long-term commitment to offer a more equitable, coordinated and person-centered approach to their health care.
Parrish will be talking about the payer perspective on a number of issues related to the new state programs. These include:
- Harnessing clinical data from the health plans’ network electronically
- Receiving notifications in near real-time on all transitions of care, including from home to a hospital, a hospital to rehab or a Skilled Nursing Facility, and from such a facility to home
- Implementing interoperability requirements, which helps provide data to a plan member when they need it on their own device
- Encouraging hospitals, clinics, provider groups, and physicians in the health plans’ network to connect with a health information exchange (HIE)
Joining Parrish on the 3:45 pm panel are Brad Hibbard, the Chief Strategy Officer for Los Angeles Network for Enhanced Services (LANES), a health information exchange, and DeeAnne McCallin, a former Director of Health Information Technology at the California Primary Care Association. The panel moderator is Timi Leslie, the President of BluePath Health, a health care consulting firm.
Other panels at the summit will delve into topics like monitoring emergency room visits and hospitalizations, cybersecurity, and telehealth. You can register for the free event, which runs from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, here.
