Fatima Vasquez Will Serve as a Member Advocate
L.A. Care is proud to announce that Fatima Vasquez has been appointed to the health plan’s Board of Governors. The board consists of 13 members representing specific stakeholder groups, including physicians, federally qualified health centers, children’s health care providers, local hospitals and the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. Vasquez, as a member of L.A. Care, is representing consumer members, one of two member advocates on the board.
“Ms. Vasquez has been serving L.A. Care as a member of one of our community advisory committees for more than a decade and has proven a valuable voice for our members,” said John Baackes, L.A. Care CEO. “As a board member, she will continue to help us understand the health care issues that most impact our members across all regions.”
In 2011, Vasquez became a member volunteer of the Regional Community Advisory Committee (RCAC) in region 7, which includes the communities of Huntington Park, Bellflower, Norwalk, and Cudahy. Vasquez was elected vice chair of RCAC 7 in 2014 and became chair in 2016. In 2019, Vasquez was elected chair of the Executive Community Advisory Committee, a body consisting of 11 RCAC chairs and two at-large members, which advises the Board of Governors about things that are impacting members and their communities.
“I am very excited to be able to represent the values of all L.A. Care members, and vow to do so with dignity,” said Vasquez. “I will proudly seek equitable access and services, while respectfully listening to each member of L.A. Care.”
As a volunteer, Vazquez has learned the inner workings of the health plan and health coverage, making her an invaluable advocate and resource for L.A. Care members. She has confirmed her commitment to her community and vows teamwork with other stakeholders on the board. Her energy, enthusiasm and vision will bring the collective member voice to the Board.
