Annual Report 2014-2015: Members

New Member Portal

To put more resources at our members' fingertips, L.A. Care launched L.A. Care Connect, an online member portal. The online resource allows members to print their ID card, chat online with a nurse, change their health plan or change their doctor. Also available are the pharmacy, provider and member resources, as well as information about upcoming events and health plan phone numbers.

Managing Your Health

As part of the second phase of our website redesign, L.A. Care now offers a full-featured health and wellness library that aims to help members and all consumers take an active role in managing their health. Available in English and Spanish, the free online resource includes a comprehensive health encyclopedia, symptom checker, healthy recipes, interactive quizzes and the latest health news to empower consumers to make everyday improvements for themselves and their families.

Free, 24 Hour Nurse Support

Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, L.A. Care offers a nurse advice line for members who need support in the language of their choice. From October 2014 through September 2015, members made 24,727 phone calls to the line, mostly seeking emergency care determination and advice. In addition, members were able chat with a nurse online from their L.A. Care Connect account.

NCQA Accreditation

L.A. Care is proud to be accredited by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). This achievement validates that in addition to being the largest publicly operated health plan, L.A. Care is also among the best. The NCQA Health Plan Accreditation process evaluates how well a health plan manages quality throughout every part of our delivery system – physicians, hospitals, affiliated providers, and administrative services – to continuously improve health care for our members. L.A. Care also received the NCQA Multicultural Health Care Distinction for our Medi-Cal and L.A. Care Covered product lines.
