Annual Report 2014-2015: Employee Engagement

Employee Commitment

In May 2015, L.A. Care increased our minimum wage to $15 per hour. L.A. Care recognizes the important contributions of employees at all levels and anticipates this will have a positive impact on retention of staff and recruitment efforts.

Employee Wellness

Fit-4-Life, an online interactive wellness tool is a social, competitive, reward-based program designed to put quick and easy tools for better health at your fingertips. More than 50 percent of employees participate in the program. To build on the efforts of the online tool, L.A. Care offers weekly fitness classes during lunch and after hours, and had more than 1,300 participants between October 2014 and September 2015.

Classes include Zumba, kickboxing, yoga and mindfulness. Fitness challenges are also issued, like completing a 5k run or walking 30,000 steps a week, and more than 30 percent of employees participate in these. In addition, healthy meal choices are prepared onsite daily by different vendors and available for purchase in the lunch room, and weekly Weight Watchers meetings are held onsite.

Toastmasters

In June 2015, L.A. Care received our Toastmasters charter, with two clubs officially kicking off at the end of August. Approximately 40 employees meet weekly to help develop communication and leadership skills through public speaking and presentations.
