Housing Deposits

Housing Deposits assist with identifying, coordinating, securing, or funding one-time services and modifications necessary to enable a person to establish a basic household, such as:

  • Security deposits
  • Set-up fees/deposits for utilities or service access and utility arrearages 
  • First month's coverage of utilities
  • First and last month's rent
  • Pest eradication and one-time cleaning prior to occupancy
  • Goods such as an air conditioner or heater, and other medically necessary adaptive aids and services that are necessary to ensure access and safety for the individual upon move-in to the home

Housing Deposits services do not include the provision of room and board or payment of rental costs beyond the first and last month's coverage.

Exclusion Criteria

1. Member is not currently enrolled in Housing Navigation.
2. Member is already living in permanent housing at the point of request. However, reasonable accommodations could be considered.
3. Member is not moving into a permanent housing setting.
4. Member is receiving Housing Deposit resources from a duplicative program.
5. Member previously received housing deposit services from L.A. Care or another Medi-Cal managed care plan(s). Housing Deposits are available once in an individual's lifetime. Housing Deposits can only be approved one additional time with documentation as to what conditions have changed to demonstrate why providing Housing Deposits would be more successful on the second attempt.
