Personal Care and Homemaker Services

Personal Care and Homemaker Services (PCHS) is a program that can help you with Activities of Daily Living (ALDs).

Some examples of Activities of Daily Living (ALDs) you can get help with are:

  • Taking a bath or shower
  • Getting dressed
  • Using the bathroom
  • Walking
  • Eating
  • Getting in and out of a bed 
  • Getting in and out of a chair

Personal Care Services can include help with Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IALDs) such as:

  • Making meals
  • Getting groceries
  • Managing money

Eligibility:

To join the program, you must be an active member with Medi-Cal. You may be eligible for PCHS if you have one of the following: 

  • You applied for In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) and are waiting for the IHSS  decision
  • You applied for more IHSS hours due to change in health condition and are waiting for the IHSS decision
  • You were denied for IHSS 
  • You are at risk of going to a nursing home or being hospitalized; or
  • You have trouble doing tasks on your own and do not have any other support.

This program is not a long-term (ongoing) service. Other restrictions may apply.
