According to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine may be given as early as 9 years old. Vaccinating preteens between the ages of 9-12 provides a stronger immune response, requires only two doses versus three doses, and preteens are more likely to complete the HPV vaccine. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Cancer Society also recommend vaccinating preteens between the ages of 9-12.

The L.A. Care Missing Vaccine Reports are available on the L.A. Care Provider Portal. Use these reports to help close adolescent immunization gaps, such as the HPV vaccine. Remember to document member immunizations into the California Immunization Registry (CAIR). For questions regarding L.A. Care immunization gaps, please email Quality@lacare.org
