Three L.A. Care Leaders to Speak at the 2022 Los Angeles State of Reform Health Policy Conference

State of Reform, a platform for health care stakeholders in 12 states across the country, is holding its 2022 Los Angeles Health Policy Conference tomorrow in Burbank. Three leaders from L.A. Care Health Plan will participate in the event during which State of Reform will focus on bridging the gap between health policy and political reality.

John Baackes, L.A. Care CEO, will be the afternoon keynote speaker. Baackes will discuss his outlook on the future landscape of health policy in Los Angeles County.

Richard Seidman, MD, MPH, L.A. Care Chief Medical Officer, will be on a panel titled Initiatives for Growing and Supporting the Workforce. Seidman will speak about Elevating the Safety Net, L.A. Care’s $155 million initiative launched in 2018 amid a growing physician shortage. He will describe how the initiative has helped to recruit, retain and train new physicians in the L.A. County safety net, those clinics and practices who offer care regardless of an individual’s ability to pay.

Cynthia Carmona, L.A. Care Senior Director of Safety Net Initiatives, will participate in a morning panel title CalAIM Implementation Issues. California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal, or CalAIM, launched on January 1 as a long-term commitment to transform and strengthen Medi-Cal through a coordinated and person-centered approach toward improving health outcomes. The panel will discuss the first-year successes and shortfalls in implementing this ambitious initiative, and will offer suggestions for improvement.
