South Pasadena Resident is New Chief of Operations of L.A. Care Health Plan

LOS ANGELES – L.A. Care Health Plan, the nation’s largest public health plan, announced today that Jim Brown will serve as Chief of Operations for the 800,000 member health plan. He will oversee all operations for the organization and ensure standards of care, member satisfaction and operational performance objectives are achieved. He will be responsible for the oversight of the member services, claims, provider network operations, information services, project administration, strategic initiatives and product operations departments. 

 
Brown brings more than 20 years of health care experience to L.A. Care, having successfully led organizations across the health care industry, including health plans, integrated delivery systems, medical groups and IPAs.

Prior to joining L.A. Care, Brown served as Chief Operating Officer at Presbyterian Health Plan (PHP) in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Under his leadership, PHP achieved NCQA “Excellent” ratings many times. In addition, the Medicaid line of business was recently ranked in the top 25 in the country by U.S. News & World Report and the Medicare and Medicaid programs scored in the top 10% in member satisfaction compared to all health plans in the country.  
 
Moreover, Brown was the Administrator and Chief Operating Officer at La Vida Medical Group and IPA in Los Angeles, one of the largest IPAs in California, for four years. 
 
Brown earned dual bachelor degrees from the University of California at Davis in Biochemistry and Economics. Mr. Brown also holds a master’s in Health Policy and Management from UCLA School of Public Health and a MBA from San Francisco State University.
