Pediatric Cardiologist Dr. Thomas Klitzner is New Chair of L.A. Care's Board

Los Angeles, CA - Thomas Klitzner, MD, PhD, a pediatric cardiologist at Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA and Jack H. Skirball Professor and Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at UCLA has been elected chair of L.A. Care’s Board of Governors.

 
Dr. Klitzner leads a 13-member stakeholder board, which includes representatives of community clinics, hospitals, federally qualified health centers, doctors, members, advocates, and Los Angeles County. He has been an L.A. Care board member for five years, representing children’s health care providers.
 
Walter Zelman, PhD, Chair of the Department of Health Science at California State University, Los Angeles, was re-elected as Vice Chair; Supervisor Don Knabe continues as Secretary, and Member Advocate Mario Ramos remains as Treasurer. 
 
Three new members have joined the L.A. Care Board within the last year. Philip Browning is Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services, and a nationally recognized leader in child support services. Jim Mangia is President and CEO of St. John’s Well Child and Family Center, a major health care provider to low-income and indigent populations through eleven clinic sites in Los Angeles County. John F. Schunhoff, PhD, is Interim Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services and a

professor at the USC School of Policy, Planning and Development.
