WHY: Each year, influenza accounts for up to 200,000 hospitalizations and an
average of 24,000 deaths in the U.S.
Despite the fact that African-Americans are at greater risk of getting the flu,
primarily because they suffer disproportionately from obesity, diabetes and
other health conditions, they are less likely to get vaccinated.
On average, only one in four African American adults are getting vaccinated.
This may be attributed to a general distrust of the medical establishment, to
limited access to health care and health education.
MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES WITH RSVP*:
· Video and photos of African-Americans getting vaccinated
· Reactions from the flu clinic patients
· Interview with Dr. Elaine Batchlor, Chief Medical Officer at L.A. Care
*RSVP is required to shoot video and/or photos inside the flu clinic.
