L.A. Care Ready To Enroll Spanish Speakers In 'ACA' Programs, Launches Spanish Website

LOS ANGELES — L.A. Care Health Plan, the nation’s largest publicly operated health plan, is actively engaging and enrolling Spanish-speaking Angelenos in Affordable Care Act programs, including Covered California and Medi-Cal expansion.

L.A. Care’s new product line, L.A. Care Covered™, is one of six Qualified Health Plans (QHPs) in Los Angeles County chosen by Covered California, the state’s health benefits Marketplace.

Today, L.A. Care launches its Spanish product specific website, www.lacarecovered.org/es, that offers a user-friendly format, with information about each health plan tier and detailed benefits, a monthly premium calculator, health care reform guides and health and wellness information.

Ready to assist in Spanish, L.A. Care’s 31 plan-based, predominantly bilingual enrollers, are answering phones (855-222-4239) six days a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (6 p.m. on Saturdays), and providing callers with personalized assistance through the application process. L.A. Care’s field representatives and health promotoras are in the community daily, educating and providing printed resources. Targeted advertising adorns hand sanitizer units in grocery stores, providers’ offices and clinics, and played on radio airwaves across the county.

In addition, L.A. Care is hosting and participating in events, including a Healthy Holidays event at its Lynwood Family Resource Center (3180 E Imperial Highway) in the heart of Plaza Mexico, this Saturday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m.

“L.A. Care is committed to ensuring that low-income individuals and families in L.A. County have access to high quality health care, and that includes providing resources in a multitude of languages, as always, starting with Spanish,” said Howard A. Kahn, Chief Executive Officer of L.A. Care Health Plan. “We’ve served the Spanish speaking community for more than 16 years, it is part of who we are. L.A. Care Covered™ is in keeping with our strong support of both national health care reform and the expanded health care coverage.”

With nearly two decades of experience in Los Angeles County, L.A. Care understands cultural sensitivity and was one of only 11 health plans in the country to receive the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s Multicultural Health Care Distinction this year.
