L.A. Care Opens Family Resource Center in Palmdale to Help Address Health Needs of the Antelope Valley

Los Angeles — L.A. Care Health Plan today announced the grand opening of its newest Family Resource Center (FRC) in Palmdale, located at 2072 E. Palmdale Blvd. As part of its mission to provide access to quality health care for Los Angeles County residents, the new Palmdale FRC is designed to help meet some of the most pressing health needs in the Antelope Valley community, where approximately 120,000 L.A. Care members reside.

“After many months of planning and building, we are thrilled to open the doors to our Family Resource Center in Palmdale,” said L.A. Care CEO John Baackes. “Because the Antelope Valley has historically had fewer resources, we are proud to bring this much-needed space to deliver on our vision of creating healthy communities in which all have access to the health care they need.”

The Palmdale FRC, which officially opened to the public in early June, offers a broad array of free health and wellness classes, including chronic disease management, prevention of asthma, diabetes and obesity and a variety of exercise classes that promote a healthy lifestyle. In planning for the center’s programming, L.A. Care sought input from community members to help identify and understand local health priorities. All classes and services are free and open to everyone.

The 7,000-square-foot center will also offer assistance in applying for free or low-cost health care coverage to residents throughout the region. The new facility is L.A. Care’s fifth Family Resource Center. Other locations include Pacoima, Inglewood, Boyle Heights and Lynwood.

The Palmdale FRC is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

To inaugurate the Palmdale FRC, L.A. Care is hosting a free community event on Saturday, June 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
