L.A. Care Health Plan Announces Pomona Woman Is New Chair Of The Executive Community Advisory Committee

LOS ANGELES – L.A. Care Health Plan, the nation’s largest public health plan, announced today that Alejandra Martinez, a Pomona resident, is the new 2010 Chair of the Executive Community Advisory Committee (ECAC).

L.A. Care has eleven Regional Community Advisory Committees (RCACs) throughout Los Angeles County to solicit valuable health plan member and community input regarding issues and barriers to obtaining access to quality health care. Together, chairpersons from each RCAC, along with two “at-large” members, form the Executive Community Advisory Committee (ECAC), which serves as an advisory committee to L.A. Care’s Board of Governors.

“As a local public health plan, staying connected to community stakeholders is very important to L.A. Care,” says Howard Kahn, CEO of L.A. Care. “Ms. Martinez has demonstrated a strong commitment to advocating for her community, especially during Legislative Day in Sacramento, and will continue to use her voice to speak on behalf of low-income, vulnerable populations in Los Angeles County.”

Ms. Martinez is a consumer member and is Chair of RCAC 11, which includes the cities of La Puente, El Monte, Baldwin Park, Pomona, Covina, Claremont, and other cities east of the San Gabriel Valley. She has been an active member of RCAC 11 for over two years and has served as Chair for one year. She is also an active health promoter trained by L.A. Care’s Health Promoters/Promotores Program.

“I am very committed to working with my fellow ECAC members, community advocates and providers to ensure we continue advocating for our communities and health plan members with special needs,” says Martinez.

In addition to her leadership role at L.A. Care, Ms. Martinez is a mother of three preschool/elementary school-aged children and a volunteer member for the Pomona Unified School District and the Los Angeles County Office of Education Head Start/Preschool Division.

L.A. Care’s consumer advisory committee is one of the largest of its kind for a health plan. To date, the RCACs have over 300 members including health plan members, community advocates, and L.A. Care providers.
