L.A. Care Board Chairman Statement on L.A. County Audit Review

Statement by L.A. Care Board Chairman Thomas Horowitz, D.O. Regarding the Review of L.A. Care Health Plan’s Financial Condition by the L.A. County Auditor-Controller:

"The report by the County Auditor-Controller found that L.A. Care is a well-run and fiscally responsible organization. The report also mentioned that L.A. Care's overall financial performance and administrative costs are favorable when compared to similar plans in California.

L.A. Care is in the unique position of competing as a public entity in a health care marketplace with large, private, for-profit health plans. It operates in one of the most demanding business sectors - health care. The Auditor-Controller recommended that L.A. Care review its policies regarding certain expenses, an area in which L.A. Care has already been making changes for the past year.

The Board of Governors understands how the public may view some of the expenses identified by the Auditor-Controller and Supervisor Antonovich and is committed to implementing best practices for public agencies. L.A. Care’s incoming CEO is also committed to working with the Board to ensure these practices are implemented."
