HITEC-LA to Help 27 L.A. County Clinics Reach Meaningful Use Stage 2 on Certified Electronic Health Records

Los Angeles, CA – HITEC-LA announced its selection as Service Partner for Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County (CCALAC) to provide L.A. County Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) with education and on-site technical assistance to implement certified electronic health records (EHRs).  FQHCs face significant challenges making required health care reform changes.  A project of L.A. Care Health Plan, the nation’s largest public health plan, HITEC-LA was selected for its track record of effectively working in partnership with clinics on meaningful use Stage 1 and reputation for improving quality through technology.

In December 2012, the Health Resources and Services Administration awarded CCALAC the L.A. Regional Health Center Controlled Network (HCCN) grant for $1.8 million over three years to support adoption and meaningful use Stage 2 of certified EHR technology and technology-enabled quality improvement initiatives in health centers.

“We are excited to serve as CCALAC’s partner and look forward to continuing our work with L.A. County clinics on getting to meaningful use Stage 2 and improving quality,” says Mary Franz, Executive Director for HITEC-LA.  “We were chosen for our ability to get up and running quickly.  Our long-standing working relationships with the clinics along with our comprehensive knowledge of meaningful use and quality improvement measures allow us to understand their needs and provide the right support.”

The L.A. Regional HCCN supports 27 collaborating health centers with 183 locations throughout the county, employing over 730 health care providers and serving almost 700,000 patients each year.  Through the HCCN grant, clinics receive HITEC-LA’s on-site technical assistance to help them use technology to better care for a significant share of L.A. County’s underserved residents.  L.A. Care Health Plan is a leader in developing new programs through innovative coalitions and partnerships designed to support public health, the safety net, and health insurance coverage for vulnerable populations.

“CCALAC is proud to partner with HITEC-LA on implementing the advanced technology necessary to help L.A.'s health centers meet the performance imperative of health reform,” says Louise McCarthy, President and CEO of CCALAC and member of the L.A. Care Health Plan Board of Governors.  “HITEC-LA has a proven track record in this arena, having helped thousands of L.A. providers go live on certified electronic health records systems.  Together, we will provide high quality, innovative resources to improve care for some of the most vulnerable populations in the country.”
