The L.A. Care Blue Shield Promise Community Resource Center in Pomona is proud to join Sowing Seeds for Life at its drive-thru food pantry. The food pantry at the Fairplex in Pomona is now a bi-monthly event to help families who are struggling in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a chance for the Community Resource Center to continue its efforts to help the people of Pomona stay active, healthy and informed, even while following stay-at-home orders.
The Community Resource Center will be providing pre-packaged Care Kits to the approximately 2,000 people expected to pass through the drive-thru panty starting May 6, between the hours of 9 am and 1 pm. The Care Kits will include:
- First Aid Kits
- Stretch Bands
- Two Water Bottles
- Jump Rope
- Comfort Clay Pad
- Activity Coloring Books and Crayons
The kits will also include information about accessing other resources while the Community Resource Center is closed. One of those resources is free on-demand fitness and nutrition classes on the Community Resource Center YouTube Channel.
The drive-thru pantry operates in a safe manner with all volunteers wearing masks and practicing the proper social distancing guidelines. Patrons, who should arrive at Gate 17 of the Fairplex at 1101 W. McKinley Avenue in Pomona, are asked to stay in their vehicles as food, supplies and the care kits are loaded into the trunks.
L.A. Care will join Sowing Seeds for Life in future drive through food pantries on May 20, May 27, and a still to be determined date in June. All will be held between 9 am and 1 pm.
It is a challenging time, but we will get through this together.
