California Healthcare News shared an opinion piece by L.A. Care CEO John Baackes about efforts to extend Medi-Cal in "Time to Invest in Health Coverage for California’s Undocumented". In the piece, he talks about the benefits of providing Medi-Cal coverage to the 1.8 million low-income, undocumented adults living in California.
The fact is, California will be stronger if everyone has access to health care. The National Immigration Law Center compiled results from numerous studies that showed access to insurance reduces both health and non–health-related debt, enables consumers to spend more in local economies, and increases workplace productivity and economic output.
